At the non-profit organization “Me Alla Matia” we are thrilled that our educational program “Des ti Zoi Me Alla Matia” (meaning “see life with different eyes”) in schools, has begun again this year!

This program has been implemented in schools for years with permission from the Ministry of Education, aiming to help students become familiar with diversity.

People with disabilities lead open discussions with students, engaging them in a hands-on exploration of disability, accessibility, and each person’s unique individuality. Children, as the active citizens of tomorrow, are inspired to understand the importance of mutual acceptance and solidarity.

The program begins with the speaker describing their daily life. Students are then invited to discuss the everyday challenges faced by people with disabilities and how we can make a collective difference. This approach addresses the modern need for fostering an inclusive society, starting right in the classroom.

Those who lead the sessions are adaptable to their audience, responding to how children express themselves verbally, emotionally, and through their behavior. The program is thus dynamic, reflecting the unique makeup of each group and celebrating individual diversity. Since this is a child-centered initiative, participating students are given the space to shape the discussion, share their thoughts, express emotions and experiences, and actively contribute to the coordination. The speakers interact with an audience that serves as a microcosm of society’s diversity, highlighting each person’s uniqueness and value.

This interaction and mutual understanding are key to changing attitudes and perspectives around diversity, disability, and social inclusion.

To date, the non-profit “Me Alla Matia” has implemented 585 free educational programs in schools, involving 47,500 students and 4,050 educators.

The Des ti Zoi Me Alla Matia program takes one academic hour to complete, either in person or online if needed, and is available to students in Primary and Secondary Education in general, vocational, or special needs schools nationwide.

Note: For the current school year, the Ministry of Education has announced that it is no longer necessary for implementing agencies to obtain approval for educational programs. The Ministry’s Guide to Evaluation Criteria for Educational Programs specifies:

Article 73 of Law 5128/30-07-2024, A’ 118, with immediate effect, rationalizes the approval process for Educational Programs (EPs), Student Competitions (SCs), Student Festivals (SFs), and Conference Simulations (CSs) as follows: “Actions and programs implemented by each school unit are approved by the Principal or Head and communicated to the Education Quality Supervisor of the respective Directorate of Education.”
